You have been busy with work and life in general and have not given a thought to how you are going to spend your precious summer holiday. The weather has warmed up and suddenly a Mediterranean sailing holiday seems like just what you need to get away from it all! Although it is true that June is a little bit late to book your bareboat yacht charter for the summer, there are some great deals and some destinations that will be easier than others to find the right boat. All is not lost….
Firstly, forget chartering from the small charter bases such as those on small islands and focus on the larger centres where you will still be able to find an available yacht.
In Greece there is still a good selection of available yachts from the main bases of Athens, Skiathos and Lefkas.
Pick up your yacht in Athens and explore the islands of the Saronic Gulf, this is a good choice if you want to avoid the Meltemi winds that can make sailing pretty exciting in other parts of the Greek Islands in July and August. Visit Hydra where cars are prohibited and you can stroll around the island visiting monasteries and historical buildings with just the sounds of crickets and the water lapping the shore to guide you. Visit the temple of Aphaia on the island of Aegina and stop at Epidaurus to watch a play in the world famous ancient theatre.
Charter from Lefkas and sail and explore the islands of the Ionian Sea. These lush and mountainous islands which include Corfu, Ithaca, Kefalonia, Paxos and Zakynthos are known for their crystal clear waters and sandy beaches.

Head to the northwest Aegean Sea and sail in the Sporades Islands picking up your yacht in Skiathos. Most of the islands which make up this archipelago are uninhabited and this is a fantastic destination to sail in a marine park famous for being the home of the Mediterranean Monk Seal.
The beautiful Dalmatian Coast of Croatia is another destination where there are still some great deals to be had for the summer of 2016. Charter from Split and Trogir where you can still pick up a great yacht and head out to the party island of Hvar or cruise off into the National Parks for some peace and quiet and moor up in a tranquil bay.
The French Riviera is famous for its chic and jet-set image but don’t be fooled. Monaco, Cannes and St Tropez are all must see destinations if you are chartering on the Riviera but there are also many hidden and quiet coves, islands and ports to pull into. Charter from Hyeres and sail to the beautiful Porquerolles Island and visit the Calanques, calling into Cassis to explore this sleepy village and stock up on the local Bandol wine.
There are many great potential starting points from which to charter on the French Riviera, from the historic Marseille to the yachting hub of Antibes or St Raphael, a stone’s throw from St Tropez, get in contact with us and we will help you to find a charter yacht for this summer in any of these destinations.
