What Are Standard Procedures On a Luxury Yacht Charter?

When you charter a yacht, one of the most important things to remember is to respect the yacht. Sure, it's just as important to take good care of your crew, but the yacht is the vessel in which you spend your time for your charter, so it's crucial to keep it nice. Most yachts have a select number of “house rules”, which you should adhere to. These can change from yacht to yacht, but most remain throughout the industry. If you want to see more tips on how to get the most out of a crewed charter, click here.

– No shoes on deck or inside. Ever wondered why, at docks, there are sometimes lots of shoes lying around? Well it's because of this. A fantastically new teak deck will not take nicely to having a family of 8 walk all over it in shoes for a week! It's just the same reason that you were always expected to take your shoes off at the front door when you were younger, because your parents were insistent on the flooring in your household needing to remain clean!

– No smoking inside. Very few yachts allow smoking inside, and few allow smoking at all, even on deck. There are a few reasons for this. Starting with the fact that the yacht might start to smell inside from the fumes, and more importantly, if any ash travels inside, which can happen when sailing, it has the potential to burn furnishings. This explains why some yachts allow smoking on deck, but not if there is wind!

– Listen to your crew, and in particular the Captain! The crew on board luxury yachts know exactly what they're doing, so please do listen to them. If you have any questions, ask them. They know the best places (and worst places) to go, at all times, so discuss your itinerary plans with them, as they might have some great suggestions for you. It's important that all guests also listen to make sure they have a safe and enjoyable charter.

David Beckham’s Speedboat Fails to Sell at Auction

The Bladerunner RIB 35 used by David Beckham to enter into the London Screen-Shot-2012-12-11-at-10.25.572012 Olympic Games carrying the Torch, has failed to reach its reserve at auction, we can confirm. The vessel was expected to fetch somewhere around £250,000 at auction, something which did not, unfortunately, take place.

The Bladerunner was used by David Beckham, soccer player of LA Galaxy and advocate to London 2012, to carry the torch down the River Thames and under Tower Bridge, on its journey from London City Hall. The RIB was manufactured by Hampshire based Ice Marine.

The bidding of the vessel, for such Olympic paraphernalia, was expected to reach £250,000 (around $400,000) at auction, but that price only managed to reach around £180,000.

Spokesman Julian Roub said, “It was a very busy sale but the item was fairly highly priced and there was insufficient interest on the day.

“It may sell in a post-sale deal.”

If you’re looking to charter something similar, why not go for the fantastic Wally Tender 45, a great motor boat for day charters out of St Tropez and Cogolin. She is sleek and powerful with two 320 CV engines. She charters for between €2,200 and €2,500 per day.

Water Toys For Your Luxury Yacht Charter Part II

Following on from the incredible water toys described in Part I, we plan to follow suit with two more of the coolest water toys for your yacht! Water toys are often a defining part of a charter, if two yachts are identical, the only two things that will differ (other than the interior) are crew and water toys, which we believe are both very important.

Flyboard

Have you ever really wanted to pretend you were a dolphin? No? Well you might just want to after seeing the Flyboard. We are in absolute awe and we’re looking forward to upcoming seasons where lots of charter yachts have these water toys – because we know they’d be an absolute hit! Available from as little as £4,100 for personal purchasers, we know this is a great buy – maybe even an extravagant Christmas present if it suits!

An option of  a yacht that has lots of water toys is always a great choice, which is why we recommend this fantastic Sunseeker 82, available for charter in Cannes, Antibes, Juan les Pins and Golfe Juan, at a rate of €32400 per week plus expenses. For an 82 foot yacht, she has plenty of water toys for your charter, a tender with donuts and water skis, great fun for all the family!

If you’re looking for more water toys to be available during your charter on a slightly larger yacht, please do email all your enquiries to [email protected] and one of our Charter Specialists will get back to you very shortly! Rolex Watches U.S.A Extends Support for US Sailing

On the 26th November 2012, in Portsmouth, Rhode Island (a great place to charter a yacht!), US Sailing and Rolex Watch USA announced that the prestigious brand of watches would maintain it’s support of the sailing’s national governing body. At the same time as maintaining it’s position of being the US Sailing’s official timepiece and title sponsor of the US Sailing’s Rolex Yachtspeople of the Year Awards, on Monday, Rolex explained it would increase support by becoming a patron of US Sailing’s Afterguard and Medalist programs.

The Afterguard is US Sailing’s highest level donor program, with a mission of leadership, integrity and advancement for the sport of sailing in the United States.  Afterguard donations fund restricted projects of mutual interest between donor and the organization as well as unrestricted gifts to support operations.  The Medalist Program supports the Olympic Sailing Program whose mission is providing a path to Olympic and Paralympic pre-eminence for the sailors of the United States.

Rolex has long viewed US Sailing’s role as critical to the development of the sport in the U.S.A., and this new era in the relationship not only builds on the partnership that the two organizations have forged over three decades, but also continues the encouragement and promotion of excellence while highlighting the rich traditions of sport.

“We are honored that Rolex is our longest standing partner, supporting US Sailing for over 30 years,” said US Sailing Executive Director Jack Gierhart.  “Our friends at Rolex have been, and continue to be, instrumental in the development of sailing in the U.S.  While times change and strategies evolve, Rolex’s commitment to the sport and our organization has only strengthened over time.  We are grateful for that as we work to promote excellence, integrity, and opportunity in sailing.”
