Hot Yachts for the Monaco Show – TRIDENT- 65m Feadship

Designed by Donald Starkey, TRIDENT is another of our favourites this year! Beautiful woods and marbles, every exotic stone you’ve never heard of, customized mosaic in every bathroom to match the exquisite marble with fossilized shells. Beautiful details unite the overall theme of texture and grain, fabric and cut. The range of materials used was breathtaking: travertine, granite, sandstone, limestone from the Sahara and onyx, then Japanese ash, grey stained pine, chestnut, flamed mahogany, rosewood, flame cut whitewashed chestnut, lacquered Japanese sen and olive. Fabrics included silks, leather, batik and suede. Even the venetian blinds were made of hand-stitched leather!

There is also great use of light, with huge windows and sliding water paper screens in the cabins and dining room. Here the long table is set lengthways, exaggerating the feeling of space and luxury. Even the carpets are a cut above, with the packed solid pile of New Zealand wool that literally bounced under foot. It is an absolute feast for the senses, with beautiful artwork, paintings and sculptures throughout. The main salon has a huge circular white leather sofa in two halves, which slides on air, so can be configured to suit the occasion, including cinema viewing, when a large screen emerges from the ceiling where it normally remains hidden.

One final piece de resistance is the central elevator. It is built of book-cut , wire- brushed travertine, so as well as the sheer beauty of the stone, having chips of silver and gold in the amber mesh, a mirrored sill on the floor and ceiling creates the effect of a central column that continues into eternity above and below . If that’s not enough, there is also great deck space, a gym, a Jacuzzi, and all the water toys you could wish for!

Hot Yachts from the Monaco Yacht Show – SILVER ANGEL

SILVER ANGEL Luxury Charter YachtSILVER ANGEL is a 64.5 Metre, 14 Passenger Benetti newly launched in 2009.  She was designed by Argent Design of London together with Stefano Natucci. She is not subtle or sober, but neither is she ostentatious in the traditional way. She is totally deco in style, and every detail is a modern take on this theme. She is almost entirely grey, silver and black, with hints either side towards purple and auburn.

The most defining feature is the abundance of Lalique throughout, including table lamps radiating a soft magical light among the shiny silver silk and satin, the lacquered cabinets and fur throws. Lalique also features on the wall lights, the door handles and bathroom taps, as well as the bathroom accessories made to match. She is very luxurious indeed, with exquisite fabrics and furnishings and an abundance of plump cushions in every size and shade.

On the top deck there is a golf machine dispensing biodegradable golf balls used when the yacht is under way, and floating balls for when she is at anchor, so the Crew can gather them up for future use! There is a pool on the fore deck, depicting the Silver Angel herself, where guests can properly swim against a power jet. She has all the toys you would expect as well as fishing equipment and diving gear. She will not be for everyone, because of the sheer formality of her luxury. She is not a family yacht, but for corporate or private luxury, she is rather special!

Hot Yachts from the Monaco Yacht Show – SHERAKHAN – Verkerk 228 – 13 Cabins

SHERAKHAN is the most extraordinary Dutch owned charter yacht! She is 228 feet long (70 Metres) and offers 13  cabins so she can carry a much larger party than most charter yachts.

Do not be fooled by her sober exterior When you first enter, the main dining area is a vast open room surrounded by an oval balcony, and the overall volume feels immense. The table is also laid lengthways, and together with the elaborate and slightly funky décor, it calls to mind a fairytale or the mad-hatter’s banquet! She is wildly eclectic, a bizarre and fabulous mixture of 1970s kitsch, solid Dutch pragmatism, dark woods and heavy drapes, mixed with silvery balls of glass hanging from on high.

The master is vast with his and hers bathrooms with quaint Victoriana bath tubs and a separate shower room. To add to the experience, the entire length of the deck on every level is convex, as it was built, so you feel you’ve entered the Golden age and ended up in Wonderland! It is a most fantastic and unusual place, perfect for a party or a charter with more adventurous guests who would appreciate her bohemian nature!

Other strong points include a large lower level spa, with mosaic floors, with fluorescent lighting emanating from the bath tub and basins, and a mosaic mermaid on the rear wall. Another key point is that she can sleep up to 26 guests, making her ideal for special family occasions and corporate charters.

Hot Yachts and trends from the Monaco Yacht Show

Monaco Yacht Show 2009We spent 3 days climbing all over gorgeous yachts at the Monaco Yacht Show (someone’s got to do it!) and talking to experts in the yachting business, and will try to distill all of this into a few posts.  Here are some of our topline conclusions:

The market: Although visitors seemed down from last year, there was a good sense of optimism that the market was coming back strongly. Most everyone we talked with said that clients were much more active and that business was “beating expectations”.

Trends:  Every year, the yachts get bigger, more luxurious and add more toys. This year was no exception, with PRINCESS MARIANA leading the way at 78.59 meters (257 feet).  Windows continue to get larger, with floor to ceiling becoming more prevalent. Interiors seemed to be moving away from either pure beige or dark mahogany to more use of texture, fine fabrics and excellent finishings.  One key trend we saw on many of the larger yachts was a fold down swimming deck that is a complete day living Swimming deckarea, complete with tables, bars, parasols and mini kitchens (see image).  These have a pool house feel to them, and add a nice “hang out” environment that gets you closer to the water.  And of course nearly all yachts now have hot tubs and internet built in.

Our favourite yachts: We loved the following yachts – all for different reasons, but we’ll look forward to putting our clients on any of them!

LEO FUN – 53.9 meter Proteksan Turquoise Yachts – amazing interior design with stones, woods, marble – pure class and beautifully done.

SILVER ANGEL – 64 meter Benetti – it’s immense inner spaces in an art deco style with Lalique glass throughout, beautiful use of greys, silvers, violet to give a stunning effect.

TRIDENT – 65 meter Feadship – Gorgeous interior by Donald Starkey combining Asian and Western influences, great crew.

We’ll have more about these yachts, and others in the coming days, but just wanted to give you our first impressions!
