What’s Hot at the BVI Boat Show: Catamaran REACTION

image of catamaran ReactionThis year’s British Virgin Islands Boat Show has highlighted many key charter yachts in the region, one of the Boatbooking’s teams favourites is a Lagoon 55 Catamaran known as REACTION.  Based in the BVI , she can also pick up in the USVI upon request and is beautifully cared for having received a fantastic refit earlier this year and is currently decked out in bright welcoming colors.

The crew are another reason we love this catamaran, Ian and Polly were most accomodating on board and very happy to have us, they are proud of this lovely boat and it shows.  She can take upto 8 guests and so is perfect for two families chartering together or a group of friends with facilities for diving on board.  REACTION has won an award at the BVI Charter Show and she deserves it.

Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show News: Presenting the DSe Hybrid Yacht, a Green Motor Yacht

Last week's Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show offered the stage to a debate over whether motor yachts can be environmentally friendly.  Presented and showcased was the DSe Hybrid image of the DSe Hybrid yachtYacht by Island Pilot which combines a diesel engine with a 6kW array of solar panels. Capable of cruising at 6knots using only electricity (emission free and produced by the solar panels and generators) and 8knots with the diesel engine, the maximum speed she can achieve is 15knots with both systems operating simultaneously.  There are plans to incorporate wind turbines into the design before it goes into commercial production further improving her green capabilities.  Recently, many other highly regarded manufacturers in the marine industry have introduced their own hybrid vessels such as the Hinckley Company, Scout Boats and Frauscher Bootswerft and reports of other large production manufacturers investing in research into hybrid propulsion are making their way through the grapevine.  Another advantage of the hybrid motor boat is the silent serenity you experience when the noisy diesel engines are turned off and don't forget, sailing yachts are the original hybrid vessels utilising wind first and foremost.

These are all considered steps in the right direction to making the industry eco-friendly, the insurance company Travelers has answered to pressure from the consumer market to encourage these developments by becoming the first insurance company to offer a hybrid auto insurance discount in the States, the opportunity to offset the carbon produced by burning fuel has also become a popular way to overcome the problem of enjoying yachts whilst not damaging the environment.  However, many environmentalists would probably agree that there is still a long way to go before the green-stamp can be put on the yachting-industry.

Her proportions make her ideal for entertaining with spacious and private areas for guests both inside and out, including a large pool with an incorporated bar! MARTHA ANN possesses two 1500kW CAT engines that allow her a top speed of over 15knots, perfect for cruising the waters of the Mediterranean and the Caribbean where she will now join the league of super and mega yacht charters.

Sailing yachts more prominent at the Monaco Yacht Show this year

The number of sailing yachts on display at the Monaco Yacht Show this year was suprisingly increased from previous years.  There were a number of these beauties from Perini Navis, Alloys Yachts International and Dubois Yachts at the show all of which sat comfortably and elegantly next image of sailing yachtto the large and imposing Mega Yachts who usually dominate at Monaco.  The charms and advantages of sailing yachts may be the reason behind the increased interest in these types of yachts; with the increase in fuel prices and the move towards greener yachting practices sailing yachts are the obvious option if you still want to enjoy yourself on the ocean and use the wind as your friend instead of pure engine power.

This increased interest will mean that there will probably be more large and high end sailing yacht options available in the Caribbean this winter than previously, so take the opportunity to have a look at the way travelling the oceans was intended and experience the thrill of sailing yourself.
