Chic and Exotic Caribbean Luxury Yacht Charter Destinations

The Caribbean is a paradise known for serenity, with miles of deserted beaches and magnificent coves. But many of the islands also offer exhilarating excursions, vibrant nightlife, designer shopping and phenomenal gourmet restaurants. Here Sharon Bahmer, Caribbean and USA Charter Director, reveals a few of her favorite destinations that seem to have it all.

œOne of my favorite islands is St. Lucia. A luxury yacht charter itinerary that goes to St. Lucia and the Martinique area allows you to experience different cultures and savor different flavors. Martinique is one of the most romantic islands in the Caribbean, with a distinctly French flavor, a selection of excellent restaurants, and exciting nightlife. St. Lucia is quite spectacular with a lot to do – you can visit the waterfalls, zip-wire through the rainforest, go mountain-biking, hiking and more. It’s a fabulous place to explore if you want to do a land excursion.

Grenada, the most southerly of the Windward Islands, is also a spectacular destination, similar to St. Lucia. Grenada is the ˜Spice Isle’ and you can go ashore and experience where nutmeg, vanilla, cinnamon and cocoa come from and how spices are harvested and used. There are plenty of invigorating adventures exploring the rainforest and waterfalls, archeological sites and historic plantations. Grenada is an enchanting island with a centuries old history, culture and traditions that infuse the island with exotic charm.

You can cruise from St. Vincent through the Grenadines and end up in Grenada, so on a ten or fourteen-day charter you’ve only got one leg rather than a loop that necessarily repeats some of the places. Grenada has upscale Port Louis Marina for the megayachts and you can fly straight out of Grenada to New York with no connecting flights.

The best locations for adults-only luxury yacht cruising are St. Maarten and St. Barths because of the really fun nightclubs, upscale restaurants and evening entertainment available on these islands. St. Maarten is half Dutch and half French and offers a charismatic potpourri of history, culture and cuisine. St. Barths was settled by the French and has long been a favorite destination for luxury superyachts, lured as much by the island’s natural beauty as by the delightful restaurants, designer boutiques and colonial architecture.

There are numerous onshore amenities on all of these islands that are not necessarily public knowledge. For example, if luxury yacht charter guests are avid golfers, adore spa treatments, or relish a cooking lesson with a Michelin Star Chef, megayacht Captains always have an œin because they work with the locals, they tip them and have established an excellent rapport. Therefore it is possible to obtain reservations for properties, activities and events that are generally open only to registered guests.

These islands represent only a few of the plethora of luxury yacht charter destinations in the Caribbean. What is most important for clients to know is that we’re here to assist them in finding the perfect yacht, the perfect crew, and designing the perfect itinerary.”

Impressions of CATALONIAN SPIRIT – 112 ft Inace Explorer Yacht

Friday evening, Sharon and Meg from our Ft Lauderdale office  had the privilege of viewing the CATALONIAN SPIRIT.  Built in the Brazilian yard Inace, this 112 ft 5 stateroom explorer yacht is a floating penthouse.  Unlike most yachts that will head to the Med or New England for summer charters, CATALONIAN SPIRIT will be in the Caribbean and still has a few weeks available for charter.

Catalonian Spirit deckAnd the crew!  The service was exemplary  and there was a gorgeous selection of hors d’oervres for us to enjoy.  The captain and crew will make sure that you are wonderfully pampered, as were we.

LADY JOY – Yacht review

Written by Sharon Bahmer, Caribbean and Americas Charter Director, Boatbookings.com

Lady Joy Charter YachtI recently enjoyed a weekend familiarization trip to St Maarten and Anguilla onboard the 157’ Christiansen, Lady Joy charter yacht built in 2007.

The Yacht
Lady Joy’s elegance and style is splendid throughout. The  King Master Suite boasts a private office, two walk in closets and a grand en-suite his and her bathroom. Other accommodations include five additional staterooms and an additional nanny/children’s cabin.  She accommodates 12 guests with ease.

Her special features include:
An elevator to all decks, alfresco dining on the sun deck, bridge deck main and aft, VSAT communications and internet available at all times. All staterooms have flat screen Satellite TV, Crestron controllers and Kaleidescape entertainment system for music and videos which has been touted as the œBest of the Best.

Water Toys and transportation include:

  • 22′ Nautica Widebody with twin 115 HP Yamahas
  • 17′ Nautica
  • 2 X 4 stroke Waverunners
  • 2 X Vespa Scooters
  • Snorkel and SCUBA gear

Exercise equipment including a Stationary Bike, Elliptical Machine and Treadmill

The trip:

Upon boarding we were met by the smiling Captain Michael Lovely and his delightful crew of  9 and were immediately  shown to our respective 5 star cabins.  The captain then briefed us on safety and chatted about our itinerary.

An elegant, 4 course dinner prepared by French chef, Nicolas Richert, was served alfresco on the bridge deck, which boasts seating for 12 guests. The chef was the highlight of our charter, continually surprising us with his culinary talent and creativity.

On Saturday morning we left the dock in time to meet the scheduled Simpson Bay bridge opening and headed out towards our first stop, Grand Case on the island of St Maarten.  Once we arrived, there were several activities to choose from.  Snorkeling, diving, walking the beach, shopping in town, kayaking, jet skiing, or simply enjoying being onboard and taking in the surroundings.

We were served a buffet BBQ lunch which was the talk of the rest of the charter because of the variety of the dishes, including BBQ Ribs, Chicken and turkey Kebabs, Jumbo Prawns, mushroom salad,  corn on the cob, baked red potatoes with a sour cream dill topping, complimented by a French Chardonnay, finished off with Berry Cobbler and cappuccinos!  You will certainly not go hungry on this yacht!

Eager to head out to the next adventure, we motored out to Anguilla, following the coast line to view the famous 5 star resorts along the way.  We anchored in Mead Point facing a very pretty beach, which was dotted with upscale small resorts and private homes.

On the last day we made use of the water toys onboard, swam and took a tender ride to Road Bay before heading back to St Maarten’s Marigot Bay.

It was a great thrill to be onboard the prestigious charter yacht, Lady Joy and for a short time to get to know her amenities and crew, in order to assist charter guests with their inquiries regarding  the yacht and the region. The yacht and crew and both top notch, and highly recommended.
