Proving that Phuket really is an all year round sailing destination, there are two racing events going on in Phuket this July.

Firstly, there is the Multihull Solutions Multihull Regatta from the 10th to 13th July, held at the Ao Chalong Yacht Club in Phuket. Over 20 catamarans and trimarans are already confirmed entrants. Kevin has been a regular visitor to some of the Phuket sailing regattas over the recent years and says that they are always “serious sailing by day, but great social fun in the bar afterwards!”.

Phuket-Regatta-Hero

The fantastic Multihull Regatta is followed by the Phuket Raceweek from the 16th to 21st July, with over 40 yachts entered in different categories this year’s racing is set to be spectacular! This regatta is based out of the Cape Panwa Hotel on the southeast coast of Phuket.

2 Boys In a Boat – Only hours until the end of their Atlantic Crossing!

It’s been a while since Boatbookings have written about Jamie and Luke, two intrepid young men who are currently crossing the Atlantic as team 2 Boys In A Boat. Armed with nothing but dehydrated food and a rowing boat, they are set to become the youngest pair ever to complete the crossing! 2 Boys In A Boat The boys have been rowing continuously in 2 hour windows, for 12 hours through the day and night, come rain or shine. They have faced a mountain of setbacks – including a few injuries too gruesome to mention – not to mention waves that could easily have been casted as extras in ‘The Perfect Storm”. They are now just 55 nautical miles from Antigua – the finish line of the Talisker Whisky Challenge – the world’s hardest rowing competition  which in 2006 saw Olympic rowing champions Ben Fogle and James Cracknell finish in 2nd place. During the event, no outside support is allowed and no extra supplies such as food and water are given to the teams. Jamie and Luke Rowing In an interview with the BBC, Luke said, “The days have all just blurred into one. I haven’t sat down with my knees below my hips and I haven’t eaten a meal with a knife and fork. It is uncomfortable a lot of the time but being so close to finish we don’t really care” They’ve raised over £185000 for Breast Cancer Care – well above their £150000 target – we wish them the best of luck for the final push! BLUE PETER – 3 fantastic 10 day Caribbean charters available for €10,000 this Spring, book her now!

We blogged about BLUE PETER recently after Tom from the Boatbookings.com team spent an amazing afternoon sailing on board her. We’re delighted to say that she has some availability in the Caribbean this Spring! Here are 3 mouth-watering propositions for charters on this classic yacht in the Caribbean.

Sailing at Full Tilt!

The Blue Peter sailing at Full Tilt!

Option 1: 10th  – 19th March 2014

Itinerary: Antigua, Barbuda, St Barts, Anguilla, St Maarten.

These are said to be amongst the most beautiful Caribbean islands and that’s saying something! Mat and crew will take you on this fantastic Caribbean tour in style, effortlessly travelling from island to island, anchoring off beautiful white sandy beaches, allowing you and your guests to swim to shore, snorkel, or just relax whilst the crew prepares some delicious fresh food for you and pours out the rum punch! It doesn’t get much better than that!

Beautiful Jost Van Dyke

Option 2: 27th March – 5th April 2014 – Time to race!

Itinerary: St Maarten – St Barts – BVI

In contrast to Option 1, Option 2 is all about racing (without too much pressure). You’ll be picked up in St Maarten on the 27th March from where you will be taken to St Barts to watch ‘The Bucket’, a world famous Superyacht racing event around this stunning Caribbean Island, this is not to be missed! From St Barts Captain Mat will take you on a 100 mile downwind sleigh ride to the BVI. In the BVI you will take part in the BVI Sailing Festival. This would be a couple of great days of racing around the BVI during the day time and some great parties in Nanny Cay at night. To finish off this fantastic charter, you and the BLUE PETER will cruise to the fabulous Joss van Dyke island and Virgin Gorda Sound to relax before cruising back to St Maarten for the 5th April – what an incredible trip!

Option 3: 25th April – 5th May 2014

Itinerary: Antigua – BVI

Much like Option 1, Option 3 is all about relaxation and taking in the endless beauty of the Caribbean. The sail from Antigua to the BVI is a fantastic downwind sail. On the way, Captain Mat will navigate past a handful of islands allowing you to take them in and enjoy the beaches and crystal clear water that surround them. You’ll arrive in Tortola where you will be sad to leave on the 5th May.

British University Students Attempt to Cross the Atlantic

A few weeks ago, we posted this article about British university students Jamie Sparks and Luke Birch, who, on a whim one day, decided that they would attempt to row the Atlantic. If successful, they will be the youngest duo ever to do so.

The boys have just set off from La Gomera and will face extreme conditions while pushing their bodies to their utmost physical limits throughout the 3000 mile trip to Antigua. It will take around 50 days of non-stop rowing in two hour shifts, day and night, burning around 10000 calories a day. They are living off dehydrated food made up with sea water, desalinated using solar power.

The 2 Boys in a Boat are aiming to go one step further than Ben Fogle and James Cracknell, who finished second place in the Tallisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge in 2005, and have almost raised their £100 000 target for Breast Cancer Care.

They are currently in 2nd place for the pairs after two days of rowing – you can track their progress here, check out a video of their preparation for the race here, or donate to their charitable cause here.

We wish them the best of luck here at boatbookings
