How the America’s Cup Technology Will Revolutionize Eco-Friendly Yachting 

Often hailed as the ‘Formula 1 of sailing’, the America’s Cup is at the forefront of sailing innovation. This year’s Cup has seen some incredible boating and cutting-edge technology pioneered. At Boatbookings, some team members were lucky enough to witness some of the action in last week’s finals in Barcelona.

Foiling

One of the most visible innovations from the America’s Cup is the foiling technology. Today, we literally see the boats flying above the water – a game changer for efficiency. Paris Olympics: The Progress of the Electric Boat Revolution 

Last week, the 2024 Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony was not only a special occasion to mark the global sporting event but also showcasing the progress of electric boats. For the first time in history, the opening ceremony was not held in a stadium, and instead, athletes made their way down the River Seine in a parade of boats, with 31 (one in five) of the boats electric. 

Within the parade, Torqueedo powered the largest electric boat – the Mistinguett – to cruise the Seine, retrofitted with two Torqueedo motors and six battery systems. This electric fleet symbolized a new era in maritime transport and set the bar high for more sustainable events worldwide.
