The Palme d’Or in the Port of Cannes – The Best at the Film Festival 2014

Cannes is alive and buzzing with anticipation for the famed Film Festival, beginning on 14th May. The iconic Carlton Hotel has been decorated to almost unrecognisable lengths promoting the latest Hollywood blockbusters such as the new Transformers movie and The Expendables 3. The beach clubs have been transformed into concert venues, party spaces and meeting areas and last but not least the prestigious old port of Cannes is filling up with the world’s finest super yachts ready to house the biggest names in film! We’re in Cannes looking at the most iconic yachts at this year’s Festival de Cannes…

Mogambo

In yachting size really does matter, and taking up the “Quai du Large” this year is MOGAMBO. An award-winning design from Nobiskrug, she has a simple yet truly effective exterior with mysterious grey hull and huge windows flooding the interior with light. The sleek exterior almost disguises the fact that MOGAMBO is of colossal size, weighing in at an impressive 73.55 metres. Comprising of three decks of contemporary opulence, this luxury super yacht offers everything from a beach club to a hair salon and meeting spaces to saunas. Impressed? MOGAMBO’s price tag is €600,000 per week, with a minimum charter period of 10 days.

In a world where tradition is everything, with white and blue being the norm, standing out is key. For Roberto Cavalli, standing out comes in the form of a beautifully painted pearlescent hull. From some angles the 40 metre Baglietto super yacht glows in a stunning teal, but see her in port and she’s a striking purple. Self-named RC isn’t on the charter market so we cannot confirm the interior but from the social media snaps of celebrities such as Made in Chelsea’s Mark-Francis Vandelli we see multiple animals prints and extravagant patterns. What else would you expect from such a famed designer?

Blockbusting Boats! The Best Yachts from Hollywood Films

Yachting has long been considered the pinnacle of decadence, luxury and wealth and Hollywood directors’ perception is no different. Only the most indulgent of characters, be they evil villains, Russian billionaires or eccentric stock brokers are shown on yachts in Hollywood blockbusters. As such, and befitting such characters, some of the world’s most striking and exclusive yachts have featured in cinemas in recent times.

Daniel Craig;Berenice Marlohe

Nobody does cool quite like James Bond. He always drives the coolest cars with the most beautiful women. It is no surprise therefore that he is regularly seen aboard the most stunning of yachts.  It is no surprise therefore that Sunseeker has become as much a part of the James Bond series as Aston Martin and the Vodka Martini, shaken not stirred.

With Daniel Craig as the star, outrageous gadgets and obscene vehicles have been replaced with simple and refined luxury. The villain of Casino Royale, Le Chiffre is introduced to us aboard a stunning Predator 108 while in the Quantum of Solace, General Medrano cruises across the Caribbean Sea aboard a Sunseeker Superhawk 43, a classic example of a chic and elegant Sunseeker.

In Skyfall, Daniel Craig and Berenice Marlohe are seen aboard the beautiful sailing yacht REGINA. This classic sailing yacht, however is not restricted to Hollywood and is available for charter in Turkey.

In Guy Ritchie’s RocknRolla, Russian billionaire Uri Omovich claims that, “There are only 2 days when you enjoy a boat. The day you buy it, and the day you sell it.” The Wolf of Wall Street, Jordan Belfort may well disagree. Leonardo di Caprio and co are featured partying hard and living the rock ‘n roll lifestyle aboard his beautiful 44.8m super yacht, LADY M (Naomi as she’s called in the film).

White Knight, a classic displacement yacht, is a fine example of timeless luxury. Refitted in 2010, 8 years after Matt Damon was shot on her off the coast of Marseille in The Bourne Identity, she is a stunning yacht with a superb fly deck, complete with jacuzzi.

The Nafplion Show 2014 – The opening weekend

The Nafplion Show, organised by the newly funded Greek Yachting Association, started yesterday. Set in the picturesque little town of Nafplion, 1,5hrs drive from  Athens, the show looks like it will be a huge success, as on its inaugural year it has attracted a record number of participants. Over 8o foreign brokers are in attendance, numbers very rarely seen at a Greek yacht show, along with 50 crewed yachts all of a very high standard according to our Charter Director Lambros.

The organisation is excellent – Lambros says that in his experience, the only show that can match Nafplion in terms of organised activities for brokers is Antigua, famed for lavish dinners and the most enticing activities.

The starting ceremony took place yesterday night in the medieval castle overlooking the port of Poros, we’ll keep you up to date with our favourites in the show. Please don’t hesitate to contact us for more information on the Nafplion Show or chartering in Greece.

Booming! The MYBA Charter Show 2014 Closes with the Yachting Industry Bigger than Ever

The yachting industry is booming. The MYBA Charter Show 2014 in Genoa, showcasing the most impressive yachts on the charter market, has been nothing short of amazing. Not only are yachts becoming  more exciting with indulgent interiors, striking finishes and ever more outrageous water toys, the range of charter destinations is increasing very quickly with captains keen to discover the undiscovered and offer something new and exotic to their guests. LA DEA II’s captain, Mark Hoskins is a key exponent of this new age of exploration as he prepared his stunning 161 foot Trinity for an expedition to circumnavigate the world.

LA DEA II is three decks of utter splendour. Providing the benchmark is luxury yachting, she features all that you could desire in a charter. Her salon, complete with grand piano is simply marvellous whilst the bathrooms, lined with rich mahogany and marble are indicative of true decadence.

The huge swim platform is a great place to spend lazy afternoons right by the water while the flybridge is a real highlight. Whether you’re soaking up the sun on one of the massive sun pads, lying back with a book or sipping on champagne in the jacuzzi, you will feel like you’ve arrived at the pinnacle of luxury.

While LA DEA II is off discovering new and exciting destinations, luxury yachting in Greece continues to hit new heights. Chartering in unknown regions of the South Pacific is undoubtedly an exciting new development but there remains a lot to be said for cruising around the stunning Cyclades and indulging yourself in Santorini.

New legislation has decreed that non-EU registered yachts no longer need a license to charter in Greece meaning that the selection of charter yachts in Greece is bigger than ever. In addition to that the 10% luxury tax previously imposed on pleasure yachts has been abolished, leaving only the 6.5% VAT on week long charters in the Aegean.
