Lürssen Yachts’ 196’ KATIE SUE II: Much Anticipated July Delivery

On May 31st, Lürssen launched project Katie Sue II, with delivery scheduled for the end of July. The archetypical gleaming white yacht embodies classic styling by Espen Oeino, who has sensually softened the dynamic, thrusting profile with curved architectural features and 180-degree panoramic windows.

Interior design by Glade Johnson merges stylish, contemporary furnishings with sophisticated, traditional details that serve to divide voluminous spaces into social areas that project elegance, warmth and serenity.

The spectacular sweep of windows on the main and upper decks infuses these areas with natural light. On the main deck, guests may enjoy an exquisite dinner in the formal dining area or opt for a casual respite outside aft. Of the five guest staterooms, one is located on the upper deck and four on the lower deck. All suites are spacious and characterized by thoughtfully appointed amenities including oversize vertical portholes for splendid views.

Up on the sun deck, special features include a wind-protected area amidships that may function as a gym, and a plush seating area for sunning that wraps around the Jacuzzi forward. When the sun goes down, this deck becomes party central, equipped with a disco sound system and lighting.

iPad for Yachting update – more apps and even a waterproof cover!

When the iPad was released, we immediately thought that it would be a great tech tool for yachting (See “iPad for Yachting, We Say Yes!“), and Apple clearly have a success on their hands given that they’ve already sold 3 million units.  We tested a few of the iPhone apps on the iPad and they do indeed benefit from the speed and larger screen of the iPad.  The Navionics Nautical Charts app is a shining exmple – the app works great on an iPhone, but the larger iPad screen really makes the charts come alive, and they refresh amazingly quickly.  We’re also seeing daily that more marine iPhone apps are being upgraded to work properly on the iPad.  We are keeping a regularly updated list of iPhone and iPad yachting apps on the Boatbookings site. Please let us know if you discover any great new yachting apps!

But if the iPad is going to be successful on yachts, it has to have a waterproof case. We’re happy to say that we’ve discovered one made by TrendyDigital called the Waterproof Waterguard. It’s a plastic cover that lets you use the touch screen and all the controls of the iPad.  And the best news is that it only costs $19.95 – definitely worth it to protect your iPad!

Newport Report – New sailing yachts for charter in Newport, RI including a race ready Swan 56

Meg Toppa from our Fort Lauderdale office, made her annual visit to Newport last week and reports that there are fewer places she’d rather be in the summer!  She visited a Swan 56 that is available for the BVI spring regattas that was race ready for the Newport-Bermuda race which started on Friday, June 18.

She also viewed several of the bareboats in our Newport charter fleet, such as the Beneteau 42 and Jeanneau  45 & Jeanneau 49 .  These yachts are in pristine condition and still have some availability this summer; why not book  a Beneteau 46 for July 4th weekend!  We also recently added a second Jeanneau 50 and will add a third next summer as well as a Jeanneau 53.  See all of our Newport Bareboat Sailing Yachts.

We have a great itinerary for Newport and Southern New England to get you in the mood for your summer Newport/New England bareboat charter.
