Fun & Frolics Sailing from Ft. Lauderdale

Ft. Lauderdale, sometimes known as the Venice of America for its extensive system of canals, is a sailing mecca and a superb destination for a bareboat catamaran charter.  Seminole Indians may have been the region’s first inhabitants but it is Major William Lauderdale that the city is named after.  During the Second Seminole War he led a group of Tennessee Volunteers into the area and built the New River Fort, the location of the city we know today.

A Skipper’s Perspective on Sailing St Lucia!

The Caribbean island of St. Lucia is one of the jewels of the Windward Islands. With its endless banana plantations, picturesque hamlets and stunning harbours it is a constant reminder of an older Caribbean before tourism really took off.

One of our guests, Andy, recently returned from a week of idyllic sailing, and could not wait to share his experience!

When we got off the plane in Vieux Fort, St Lucia, I immediately noticed the wind. At first I was a little concerned; it was strong and as most of my sailing takes place on the Great Lakes in Canada, the Ocean seemed a bit daunting. We immediately departed to the boat in Rodney Bay, which meant that we got to see some of St Lucia before we boarded. It is a truly  beautiful Island with high and low winding roads through rolling banana plantations and old volcanic mountains covered with lush plant life.

The Ionian Islands Are More Than But A Dream!

The Ionian islands continue to be one of the most popular charter destinations each summer, and if you haven’t visited yet, they are well worth a trip.  The Ionian is a group of islands which run from the bottom of the Adriatic to the Peloponnese and are among the greenest in Greece, studded with olive groves.  Made up of twelve small and large islands, Zakynthos, Ithaca, Corfu (Kerkyra), Kefalonia, Lefkada, and Paxi are the large Ionian Islands. The smaller islands include Antipaxi, Erikousa, Mathraki, Othoni, Meganisi and the deserted islets of Strofades south of Zakynthos. With its mild winds, crystal clear waters and predictable weather patterns, the Ionian offers excellent and safe sailing conditions.
