And They Keep on Coming – More Water Toys for Your Luxury Yacht Charter!

With more and more new water toys available for luxury yacht charters, they are increasingly more important as a deciding factor in the choices that people will make for their charter. Loved by all ages, they are plenty of fun for everyone! This time around, the water toys seem to be more about getting across the water, rather than in to it!

The Flying Fish Marlin II Platinum Black hovercraft was released at this year’s London Boat Show. Aimed at the superyacht tender market, it surely is an innovative way to get from your luxury yacht and on to the land! The build is ultra lightweight, constructed with Kevlar and carbon fibre, and with a shimmering faded black hull, the sparkle will catch anybody’s eye! With blue lighting and chrome and teak deck fittings, this is a hovercraft with style. With a 50bhp ‘Rampage’ engine, be prepared to reach speeds up to 50mph as you fly from land to water.

If you’re looking for a more compact form of transport, the MiniCat is for you! This ultra light, inflatable catamaran is small enough to fit in
your car – so you will have no problem storing it on board a yacht. Even if you’re out on a super yacht, there are plenty who still want to try their hand at sailing, and the MiniCat is a fun and exhilarating means to give it a go! It can pack down in to just one bag for storage, and can be easily built and ready to use in just 30 minutes – perfect!

Take a Trip to Tortola, British Virgin Islands, For Your Next Luxury Yacht Charter!

Tortola, the largest and most populated island in the BVI archipelago, is the capital of the British Virgin Islands. It is a mountainous, volcanic island, 12 miles long and 3 miles wide. Tortola was discovered by Christopher Columbus, who gave the island its name; Land of the Turtle Dove, as there were so many of these birds flying around the island when Columbus first came ashore. Tortola has world renowned sailing conditions, and is the main focus for many people who choose to visit the Caribbean for yachting. With sandy white beaches and aqua blue seas, Tortola is an island of natural beauty.

If you want to charter in Tortola, we suggest FLOW, a fantastic build from Fountaine Pajot. Accommodating up to 10 guests in 5 cabins, she charters from $18850 a week.
FLOW is very popular with the Boatbookings team, given she is in an immaculate condition, with all-around high standards. A Guide to Chartering a Luxury Yacht on the French Riviera Part IV

Saint-Raphaël.

This is another town on the Côte d’Azur to have been visited by Napoleon Bonaparte. The harbour marks the spot where he returned victorious from Egypt, but also left 15 years later when exiled to Elba. The port was used to support the fishing industry and ship goods, yet the town has grown to become popular with tourists, who both want to visit the beautiful town and start their sailing holiday here.

If you want a catamaran for your vacation on the French Riviera, St Raphaël is the place to start. Take a look at this Nautitech 542. Available from the end of April, from 7,000 € per week, she accommodates up to 10 guests in 5 cabins. Your skipper will take you for an unforgettable week around the French coast.

Charter a Luxury Yacht with Amazing Cupcakes!

With our Managing Director, Capucine de Vallée and Charter Director, Mimi Andain at the 2012 Antigua yacht show, inspecting the finest boats in the market, they told us about  LADY ALLIAURA, a Privilege 75 Catamaran which they ranked as one of their top 3 favourite catamarans from Day 1 of the show. They were very complimentary about the food that they were served on board, made by LADY ALLIAURA’s Italian chef; this included home-made bread and cupcakes, and the latter made us start thinking creatively…Boating Baking!

Cupcakes are fast becoming a great power in the culinary world; it makes sense that the luxury yachts are going to start serving them on board. If you’re looking to charter a yacht as part of a celebration, whether a birthday, anniversary or wedding, being able to serve mini celebration cakes on board is fantastic! So, to get the process started,
we have had a look around for nautical and yacht themed baking treats.

So, if you’re looking to charter a luxury yacht with us and want something to get you excited, here is a simple recipe to make cupcakes:

  • 100g caster sugar
  • 100g unsalted butter
  • 100g self raising flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla essence
  1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees C, line a cupcake tray with cases
  2. Cream the caster sugar and butter, until light and fluffy.
  3. Whisk the eggs in a separate bowl, then add gradually to sugar and butter, making sure they are mixed in well
  4. Fold in the flour
  5. Divide between the cupcake cases.
  6. Bake in the oven for 20 minutes, or until they are springy to the touch

For the buttercream icing:

  • 250g icing sugar
  • 80g unsalted butter at room temperature
  • 25ml milk
  • A few drops of vanilla essence
  1. Mix together  the icing sugar and butter (carefully!)
  2. Gradually mix in the milk and vanilla essence, here you can add food colouring if you want (preferably blue to match the nautical theme!)
  3. Ice your cakes!

Race in a Regatta from the Luxury of Your Own Home

A new phenomenon is taking a hold in the world of sailing fanatics, having already signed up some 300,000 players. “Virtual Regatta” is a fantastic new way to skipper your own sailboat, but from the warmth and safety of your own home. Think about this – you can navigate through day and night, storms and calm seas, all from a computer.

We think this is absolutely fantastic, and while 20 real-life skippers are navigating the globe for three months, a large group of virtual skippers are sailing the Vendee Globe too, but from their own homes.

The program has taken the sailing world by storm (excuse the pun), and with great additions such as a worldwide real-time weather simulator, virtual skippers are sure to experience all different types of sailing. Not only does this simulator encompass rain and sun, but accurate wind speed and direction.

Loads of extras are available throughout the regatta, one virtual skipper has paid €20 / $25 to have an autopilot for the night, and an extra choice of sales. It’s not just about being a one man team though, many a group have taken to joining, taking hours each and relaying the race, so they can be as fresh and awake as possible.

Although players don’t have to deal with real life situations of navigating storms and terrible tides, they might have to deal with more expected problems – the Internet. Unfortunately thousands of virtual skippers were left behind recently when the site was off limits for 5 hours due to a technical hitch.

Although we encourage people to give this great program a try, we also very much encourage you to look at being a real life skipper, with a bareboat charter of a catamaran in the BVI this Winter.  Interested in chartering a catamaran in the BVI? See our blog on the Top 3 Crewed Catamarans of the BVI Yacht Show 2012.
