Opposites attract at the Cannes Boat Show!

The Festival de la Plaisance or Cannes Boat show is now in full swing, the Boatbookings team have been checking out all that the show has to offer. The highlight of Thursday morning was going on board and being showed around KOJI, a striking 34m Leopard, she is utterly unique and finished beautifully throughout. KOJI feels, modern spacious and exotic, her three cabins are luxurious and there is even a large cinema room on board! The last appointment of the day was a drinks party on board the beautiful sailing yacht NORTHERN SPIRIT, berthed at Port Canto for the duration of the show. A speciality cocktail made by the crew was the perfect way to end the day. We were lucky enough to be shown around NORTHERN SPIRIT by the Captain Richard, needless to say we all fell in love with the elegance and charm of this majestic sailing yacht. As we chatted with other guests and the brilliant crew,  we sipped our cocktails   and watched the sun go down over the bay of Cannes. NORTHERN SPIRIT couldn’t be more different than KOJI, but we realised that there is something unique and truly special about sailing yachts.  Either KOJI or NORTHERN SPIRIT would be perfect for families or friends looking to book luxury yacht charter vacations in the Mediterranean . Cannes Film Festival, Day 6 – Shield of Straw – Our Yacht Nominee: Ferretti 680!

Shield of StrawDay 6 of the world famous Cannes Film Festival sees the premiere of Takashi Miike’s ‘Wara No Tate,’ ‘Shield of Straw.’ The film is set in Tokyo and evidently lives up to Takashi Miike’s dark and sadistic nature with plenty of violence and gore throughout. It begins with a convicted child rapist and murderer who has recently been released from prison committing a cruel murder of an innocent young girl. Consequently the girl’s wealthy and powerful grandfather, Tsutomu Yamazaki seeks immediate revenge by offering a sum of 1 billion Yen to anyone who manages to kill the prime suspect. Realising he is a dead man walking, the child killer, Kunihide Kiyomaru turns himself in to the police. As the plot thickens, five elite cops are assigned by the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department to escort Kiyomaru back to Tokyo for his trial. A dilemma unfolds; whom can they trust, can they trust themselves? Will human nature take its course and who will reap the reward? This film by Takashi Miike pushes varying boundaries of physical and mental emotions. Many questions are asked and as the body count of the innocent rises, it becomes more and more difficult to justify the suspects’ protection. This highly anticipated film will be showcased on Monday 20th at 8:30 and 22:30, 2013.

Van Dutch 40, ROYAL I oozes elegance, performance and comfort on the French Riviera

 

The iconic Van Dutch 40 motor yacht is the product of the world famous Dutch design house, Vanguard. Van Dutch’s are striking avant garde creations, incorporating modern design and advanced technology. Vanguard’s aims were quite simple: to “create a lightweight yacht with longevity and economical practicality.” The V-Shaped engine configuration creates a sharpened aft to maximise balance and the Van Dutch’s centre of gravity, optimizing speed whilst reducing fuel consumption. We must pay tribute to Frank Mulder for the design of the Van Dutch, whose underwater design has made spray and slamming a thing of the past.

Reaching speeds of up to 40 knots, the Van Dutch 40 provides excellent performance and cornering. Below deck, the Van Dutch is once again unique. There is a hydraulic table for 8 which can transform into a bed. Guests will find the latest televisions, sound systems and kitchen equipment. There is also a  fully functional W/C with a hot and cold water supply. The deck is covered in a teak composite, which makes maintenance very simple. The Van Dutch 40’s cockpit is a modular solarium that extends into a great lounging area.
