Our Playlist of the Best Sailing Songs to play on your charter!

Nearly all charter yachts allow you to plug in your iPod and play your favorite tunes while chartering.  Over the years, we’ve compiled a playlist of nearly 8 hours of music that all go well while sailing.  It contains lots of songs from the “must haves” such as Jimmy Buffett and Bob Marley, plus lots of classic rock songs that are great to sing along with while sailing (or at happy hour).

Here are a few of our selections:

The 2016 Vintage Yachting Games

Yesterday, 12/12/2012, the result of the bid to host the 2016 Vintage Yachting Games was announced. The Games are to be held at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy (WPNSA), which has already proved itself as a fantastic venue during the summer as it is where the London 2012 Olympic Games sailing took place. The English club beat competition from German, Romanian, Swedish and French clubs to win the bid, as Weymouth demonstrated that it has the capacity to hold the predicted 650 competitors.

The first edition of the event was held in 2008, created in 2006 as a means of maintaining discontinued Olympic events; the Vintage Yachting Games offer an 'after-life' for the yachts which are
no longer used in the games and also gives former Olympic sailors the chance to return to the water and show off their skills, as they can longer compete in these classes in the Olympic Games. In 2016 the Vintage Yachting Games will celebrate over 90 years of sailing in the most recent Olympic sailing venue, which could not be a better place to host the games. The games will see the return of traditional models such as the Flying Dutchman and Tempest, and the venue can also cater for the largest of the categories, the 5.5m keelboat.

The location is also brilliant for housing all the competitors and spectators, as it is already visited by many as a popular sailing venue, with fantastic views across Weymouth bay to the small island of Portland. Portland Harbour and Weymouth Bay have been accredited as some of the best sailing waters in the world, which are directly accessible from the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy, host to world-class facilities. In the closing ceremony of this year's Vintage Yachting Games, held at Lake Como, Italy, they announced that the WPSNA was to be the venue for the 2016 games, and the club accepted the handover of the Vintage Yachting Games flag.

Charter a Luxury Yacht with Amazing Cupcakes!

With our Managing Director, Capucine de Vallée and Charter Director, Mimi Andain at the 2012 Antigua yacht show, inspecting the finest boats in the market, they told us about  LADY ALLIAURA, a Privilege 75 Catamaran which they ranked as one of their top 3 favourite catamarans from Day 1 of the show. They were very complimentary about the food that they were served on board, made by LADY ALLIAURA’s Italian chef; this included home-made bread and cupcakes, and the latter made us start thinking creatively…Boating Baking!

Cupcakes are fast becoming a great power in the culinary world; it makes sense that the luxury yachts are going to start serving them on board. If you’re looking to charter a yacht as part of a celebration, whether a birthday, anniversary or wedding, being able to serve mini celebration cakes on board is fantastic! So, to get the process started,
we have had a look around for nautical and yacht themed baking treats.

So, if you’re looking to charter a luxury yacht with us and want something to get you excited, here is a simple recipe to make cupcakes:

  • 100g caster sugar
  • 100g unsalted butter
  • 100g self raising flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla essence
  1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees C, line a cupcake tray with cases
  2. Cream the caster sugar and butter, until light and fluffy.
  3. Whisk the eggs in a separate bowl, then add gradually to sugar and butter, making sure they are mixed in well
  4. Fold in the flour
  5. Divide between the cupcake cases.
  6. Bake in the oven for 20 minutes, or until they are springy to the touch

For the buttercream icing:

  • 250g icing sugar
  • 80g unsalted butter at room temperature
  • 25ml milk
  • A few drops of vanilla essence
  1. Mix together  the icing sugar and butter (carefully!)
  2. Gradually mix in the milk and vanilla essence, here you can add food colouring if you want (preferably blue to match the nautical theme!)
  3. Ice your cakes!
