AORS Rolex Fastnet Race
The Rolex Fastnet Race starts in Cowes, Isle of Wight. It is one of seven competitions in the AORS Atlantic Ocean Racing Series. Yet this is more than just a race. When the British Isles weather conspires to deliver conditions typical of the time of year it becomes a true test of human endeavour.
It is for this reason that the 608-nautical mile race consistently attracts a large and varied fleet: man and machine set against the elements. The entry list opened in early January and within ten days was closed. The 300-boat limit reached with record speed.
In an effort to absorb the large waiting list for the Rolex Fastnet Race, the Royal Ocean Racing Club have decided to increase the number of places available to IRC yachts by removing the 'professionally' sailed classes from the 300 entry limit. The Volvo Ocean 70s, IMOCA 60s, Class 40s and Multihulls, who will race under their own class rules, will be counted over and above the previous 300 entry limit.
Chartering a yacht in a rally or regatta is a unique and unforgettable experience offering the perfect combination of exhilaration on fun racing days and the relaxation of being on holiday on a yacht as part of a group or flotilla instead of solo chartering.
