Maldives Diving Charter

The rich and diverse marine life that inhabits the Maldives make it one of the best diving locations in the world. 65 million years ago the islands of the Maldives were mere volcanic formations. Over the years, oceanic currents have eroded away the islands, creating channels that today provide some extraordinary diving. The Indian Ocean flows through these channels, carrying a large concentration of microscopic plant cells, tiny marines animals and larvae. This rich concoction provides nourishment for thousands of different species of fish and mammals creating an excellent diving experience.

The warm turquoise seas of the Maldives boast a high visibility all year round, at times it's possible to see passing fish as far as 50 meters away. The atolls are engulfed by a series of complex reef formations with some circular while others irregular and shallowly submerged. Some of the best diving is done on these submerged reefs known as Thilas. They are generally located in the middle of the channels and rise from the seabed to within 10m of the surface.

Reef life is prolific, with a tantalizing variety of fish species on display for the avid diver or snorkeler. For the sharp-eyed diver, there is the possibility to encounter species like the ghost pipefish, leaf fish or frogfish. Marvel at the sight of the majestic blue whale, a gliding manta ray or a darting barracuda. The Maldives have a tremendous amount of marine life on offer and with an average sea temperature of 28°C, where better to go diving than the Maldives.
