Boatbookings runs "zero carbon footprint" charter promo - offsets 25 Tons of CO2
Boatbookings recently completed a successful, a first-of-its-kind promotion where it purchased carbon credits for each of its charters booked from 15 December to 31 December. The goal was for all of these boats to charter with a zero carbon footprint. Through this program, the company offset 25 tons of CO2, and, just as importantly, charterers could enjoy themselves on their yachts knowing that they were not contributing to global warming.
Through the program, the CO2 emissions of each charter were estimated and credits were purchased through Boatbokings' partner, JP Morgan Climate Care. These credits pay for UN approved projects that reduce carbon emissions worldwide such as installing wind farms, reforesting the rain forests, and reducing outdoor waste burning.
Boatbookings is strongly committed to helping educate people and implement programs that reduce carbon emissions and help in the fight against climate change. Previously, the company launched a Carbon Offset Calculator, and also automatically calculates the carbon footprint of most of its charter motor yachts. The company also charters a number of hybrid sailing yachts, that have essentially a zero carbon footprint because while sailing their spinning propellers recharge the batteries for the electric motors.
